Ryder Cup Europe confirms 2027 qualifying to start at British Masters on 27 August 2026

The race will open at the Husqvarna British Masters Hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at The Belfry from 27 to 30 August 2026, the first event at which eligible DP World Tour members can earn Ryder Cup points. The leading six players on the Ryder Cup points list at the end of the year-long process will qualify automatically. The final week will include DP World Tour and PGA Tour events, with those events to be confirmed when both tours announce their 2027 schedules later this year. Donald will complete his 12-man team by selecting six captain's picks in the week commencing 30 August 2027.

Points bands

Today's Golfer reported the points are banded: major championships carry 5,000 points, five times the 1,000 available at a DP World Tour Global Series event or a PGA Tour opposite-field event. PGA Tour Signature Events, the Players and the FedEx Cup Playoffs are worth 3,000; Rolex Series and regular PGA Tour FedEx Cup events 2,000; and DP World Tour Back 9 events 1,500. Eligible DP World Tour members can earn points from all Race to Dubai ranking tournaments between the British Masters and the final event, and from all events allocated PGA Tour FedEx Cup points between 1 January 2027 and the final event. The same six-and-six split set the 2023 and 2025 European teams.

Donald on qualification

Donald said: "I am delighted to today confirm details of our process for the 2027 European Team." He said the start of qualification is always a notable milestone and that he looked forward to seeing players with Ryder Cup experience and others trying to qualify for the first time compete over the next 12 months. He added: "It will be the 100-year anniversary of the Ryder Cup and we will have the support of the Irish crowds, who are among the best in the world."

The 2027 match

The contest is the 46th Ryder Cup, according to Today's Golfer, and the 100th anniversary of the event. It will be played at Adare Manor in County Limerick from 13 to 19 September 2027, the second staging in Ireland after The K Club in 2006. Europe will seek a third consecutive win against the United States after victories at Marco Simone in 2023 and Bethpage Black in 2025. Donald led Europe at both of those wins and returns as captain; Jim Furyk leads the United States for the second time, having previously been captain at Le Golf National in 2018.

Sky Sports reported Donald will be the first golfer since Bernard Gallacher to captain Europe in three consecutive Ryder Cups.
