Nvidia requires Southeast Asia cloud partners to enroll in Fleet Intelligence

Nvidia now requires cloud providers in Southeast Asia seeking Nvidia Cloud Partner status to enroll in Fleet Intelligence, Bloomberg reported on 6 November 2026. The condition applies to new applicants in the region, not to every Nvidia customer. NCP status brings Nvidia's public endorsement and preferred access to its chips, which is why cloud providers seek it.

Enrollment is not the same as disclosure. Joining Fleet Intelligence does not automatically require operators to send location data to Nvidia or the US government, TechRepublic reported. The service does collect operational telemetry. Nvidia's May 2026 technical documentation describes an agent that streams data on GPU utilization and hardware health and performs read-only monitoring. Bloomberg reported that Fleet Intelligence also collects geolocation data on individual components.

What Nvidia changed

People familiar with the policy told Bloomberg that providers in the region must sign up if they want NCP status. The program remains voluntary for other users. Bloomberg said the policy could give Nvidia greater visibility into hardware movements across Southeast Asia, a region US authorities view as a transshipment route for restricted goods.

Fleet Intelligence is not new. Nvidia introduced it nearly a year ago after US prosecutions of alleged chip smugglers and scrutiny of Megaspeed brought diversion risks into focus, according to Bloomberg. The system was initially designed as a data-center management tool, but its ability to collect geolocation information also gives it a role in export-control compliance.

Why Southeast Asia is the focus

US export rules bar Chinese companies from buying advanced Nvidia AI chips without a license. US officials believe smuggling networks have moved billions of dollars of restricted hardware into China. Washington treats Southeast Asia as a transshipment route for those goods.

Megaspeed, a Singapore-based cloud company, has faced probes by authorities in the US and Singapore for more than a year. CNBC reported that the New York Times found Megaspeed bought nearly $2 billion worth of Nvidia's most advanced products through a Malaysian subsidiary. Megaspeed has denied wrongdoing. Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang called his interactions with Megaspeed "completely normal" and said the company had studied every deployment and counted every GPU.

The compliance fight

Washington has criticized Nvidia for missing warning signs on diversion. Nvidia says it follows the law as written and that authorities should identify the bad actors. The company has already shortened its own list. According to Bloomberg, it removed about half of the Asian firms it had previously pre-approved for chip purchases. It has also told cloud customers not to rent more than half of their Nvidia compute to Chinese clients.

What happens next

Nvidia has not said whether existing NCPs must enroll to keep their designation or whether the requirement will extend beyond Southeast Asia. The company declined to answer Bloomberg's questions on those points, TechRepublic reported.
