Instinct raised $1bn at a $10bn valuation, four times its mark 33 days earlier
Instinct said on 28 September 2026 that it had raised $1bn from Sequoia Capital, Benchmark Capital and Coatue at a $10bn valuation, four times the $2.5bn of its Series B 33 days earlier. Founder Noah Shinn said the user base grew 10-11% a day and annualized transaction volume is approaching $1bn.

The ladder behind the valuation
Instinct raised a seed at a valuation of roughly $50m, backed by Conviction and Greenoaks, then a $75m Series A at a $500m valuation in early August led by Kleiner Perkins, The Tech Portal reported.
A $250m Series B at $2.5bn followed on 26 August, and Benchmark co-led that round with Index Ventures, according to The Tech Portal. Sequoia Capital, Benchmark Capital and Coatue wrote the Series C, the company said on 28 September. Total funding now exceeds $1.3bn, The Tech Portal reported. The arc from seed to $10bn played out in under a year. Public materials do not say whether the $2.5bn and $10bn figures are pre-money or post-money, or how much equity the new investors hold, Xenospectrum noted.
Why a $10bn price is a test
Instinct is still in early access, after an invite-only launch in August 2026. It has no mobile app and users reach it by SMS. It is incorporated as Spear Street Technology, DigitalToday reported. Founder Noah Shinn said in an interview published on 28 September that the user base grew at a daily rate of 10-11% without advertising, after starting with about 200 friends and family as testers. He did not disclose the current number of users or the period over which that rate was measured. Earlier reports put the figure above 100,000, with the service running at capacity and responses slowing.
Shinn also cited gross transaction volume approaching $1bn on an annualized basis, with travel about half of that. That is the value of goods and services users buy through Instinct, not the company's revenue. He has described collecting transaction fees from merchants and service providers rather than charging users steep monthly fees or running ads, but has not disclosed fee rates or which partners are under contract.
A $10bn valuation on a product with no app and 14 employees says more about investor risk appetite than about disclosed traction, The Tech Portal wrote.
What the agent does
Instinct works through its own phone number and computer, and the company says it finishes tasks rather than describing them: booking trips, ordering groceries, cancelling forgotten subscriptions. Instinct Concierge takes the calls, including restaurants that take no online bookings, a dentist's cancellation list or resolving billing issues. Trusted Person Network lets one user's agent talk to another's to arrange plans and pass PDFs, images and spreadsheets. Location sharing over iMessage lets the agent notice an arrival and suggest something from stored preferences. Instinct says an active detective system catches subtle hallucinations as the agent forms a response, removing them before output or action. The company says its architecture includes isolated sandboxes, short-lived local credentials and identity-signed tool execution. Whether the filter works will only show once access widens, The Tech Portal noted.
"We're building Instinct to be the best personal agent that can handle the deeply personal nuances of everyday life," said Noah Shinn, the company's founder.
The competitive and cost gap
Meta's Muse launched on 8 September and passed 3.4 million downloads in three weeks, with commerce partners including Shopify, PayPal, Instacart and Expedia, The Tech Portal reported. DigitalToday listed Wazo, Ollie and Fogg as startup rivals, with ChatGPT, Grok, Siri and Muse competing more broadly. Against Meta's 3.6 billion daily users, Instinct's invite-only SMS product has no comparable reach; its argument is that depth of personal context beats breadth of integrations. Cost is the other constraint. Instinct's architecture fires dozens of inference calls for every user request, which puts pressure on compute spending, and the product remains free to use for its 100,000-plus users, Yahoo reported.
Instinct's original privacy policy drew criticism and was rewritten. The company says it is working on privacy and security measures, including controls around tool execution.
What happens next
Instinct says the money will bring the product to more people and expand access beyond the invite-only phase. It has not said when that happens, what the service will cost, or given a date for general availability.
