Fortis completes ₹277 crore acquisition of 110-bed Suguna Hospital in Bengaluru
Fortis Healthcare completed its ₹277 crore all-cash acquisition of the 110-bed Suguna Hospital in Rajajinagar, north-west Bengaluru, on 28 October through subsidiary International Hospital Limited, expanding its Bengaluru network to about 1,000 operational beds including O&M facilities.

Fortis Healthcare said its wholly owned subsidiary International Hospital Limited completed the acquisition of Suguna Hospital in Rajajinagar, north-west Bengaluru, on 28 October 2026. The deal was a slump sale of the hospital's business and operations plus a separate sale deed for the land and building. The cumulative transaction value was approximately ₹277 crore, settled in cash. The company said the purchase fits its cluster-focused growth strategy in Bengaluru.
IHL signed a business transfer agreement with Suguna Ramaiah Hospitals for the hospital's entire business and operations. A separate sale deed with promoter Dr Ramaiah Ravindra covered the land and building. The filing said no shares in Suguna Ramaiah Hospitals were acquired, so there was no change in shareholding or control to report. Fortis said the deal was not a related-party transaction and required no government or regulatory approvals. Suguna Ramaiah Hospitals is held by Dr Ramaiah Ravindra with 80.91%, his mother Suguna Ramaiah with 14.55% and his wife Sujatha Ravindra with 4.54%, the filing showed.
Suguna Hospital was commissioned in 2006 on about one acre on Dr Rajkumar Road in Rajajinagar. It has 110 operational beds and room for about 40 more, taking potential capacity to roughly 150 beds. With Suguna, Fortis said it has about 500 potential beds across its Rajajinagar facility, People Tree Hospital in Yeshwanthpur and Suguna. The company operates 37 healthcare facilities across 12 states with more than 6,300 operational beds, including O&M beds.
Fortis bought People Tree Hospital in Yeshwanthpur in January this year, Financial Express reported. The company described the catchment around Suguna as affluent and densely populated, with strong connectivity. Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, Fortis's managing director and CEO, said the north-west Bengaluru corridor is an underserved catchment. Fortis said it expects to use its existing network, scale and synergies to improve operations and strengthen its brand presence.
Price against flat revenue
Suguna's revenue from operations was ₹49.80 crore in the year ended 31 March 2026, according to Fortis's stock exchange disclosure. That compares with ₹49.05 crore in FY24 and ₹49.90 crore in FY25, so revenue has stayed close to ₹50 crore for three years. At ₹277 crore, the deal values the hospital at roughly 5.6 times its latest annual operating revenue, Financial Express reported. The comparison is crude: the price also covers the land and building, and it is not a multiple of profit or cash flow.
Fortis is far larger than the target. It reported consolidated revenue of ₹2,545 crore in the June quarter, up 17.5% from a year earlier, and net profit of ₹273 crore, up 2.3%, EquityPandit reported. Suguna's annual revenue of about ₹49.80 crore is about 2% of that single quarter.
Market reaction
Fortis shares closed 3.12% higher at ₹759.50 on Wednesday, up ₹23, after the announcement, CNBC TV18 reported. They closed at ₹754.90 on Thursday, down ₹4.60 or 0.61%, EquityPandit reported. Financial Express reported that the stock was down 7.56% over the past month and 28.26% over the past year as of 29 October.
Dr R Ravindra and Sujatha Ravindra, promoters of Suguna Hospital, said the agreement "represents an important step in the hospital's next phase of growth." They said Fortis brings clinical expertise, operational capabilities and resources that will help the hospital expand its offerings.
What happens next
Fortis has said it will upgrade medical infrastructure, expand clinical programmes and add beds at the Rajajinagar site. No timetable or cost for the expansion has been published. Whalesbook flagged integration speed, talent retention and achieving the 150-bed scale as risks to watch.
