SFC Environmental Technologies' 9.47x IPO tests India's small tech issues

A 9.47x book, led by institutions

Institutions did the heavy lifting. Qualified institutional buyers bid 18.81 times their allotted portion, against 12.81 times for non-institutional investors and 2.7 times for retail. The three-day issue opened on 27 October and closed on 29 October.

The book was not evenly spread. Investors bid for 13,41,12,240 shares against 1,41,59,744 on offer, according to subscription data cited by Multibagg AI. The price band ran from ₹313 to ₹330 a share, with a lot of 45 shares and a minimum retail outlay of ₹14,850. The offer combined a ₹150 crore fresh issue of 45,45,454 shares with an offer for sale of 1,56,82,750 shares. The two published figures for the total size do not quite agree: IPO Watch puts the issue at ₹668 crore, while Multibagg reports ₹667.53 crore.

Why the retail slice matters

Retail demand was the weakest part of the book, so allotment depends on the basis of allotment rather than every valid applicant getting shares. A ₹19 grey market premium on 30 October implied an indicative ₹349 against the ₹330 upper price, about 6% above it. IPO Watch notes the grey market premium is unofficial and unregulated and should not be the sole factor in an investment decision.

The stated maximum was 585 shares, or ₹1,93,050.

The smaller issues behind it

Behind SFC sits a queue of much smaller technology issues. Praruh Technologies is raising ₹30 crore through a fixed-price IPO of 0.25 crore fresh shares and 0.05 crore shares in an offer for sale. Praruh describes itself as an IoT and embedded systems developer spanning smart homes, agriculture, healthcare and industrial automation.

Aegeus Technologies' grey market premium stood at ₹12, implying ₹117, or 11.43% above its ₹105 issue price, according to IndiaIPO. Its lot size is 1,200 shares.

What SFC actually does

SFC is not a software company. Founded in March 2005, it designs, builds and commissions wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse and solid waste treatment systems.

It says it has installed and started operating 728 wastewater treatment systems, helping treat around 17.51 billion litres of wastewater every day. Its process relies on in-house C-tech technology and a sequencing batch reactor process.

What to watch

For SFC, the scheduled sequence is allotment on 30 October, refunds and demat credit on 2 November, listing on 3 November. The first traded price will show whether the grey market premium held.

For the smaller names, the same caution applies. Aegeus' premium is volatile and should not be the only input for a subscription decision, IndiaIPO warns.
