Two Strangers to close at Longacre on 29 November 2026 after 428 performances

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) will play its final performance at the Longacre Theatre on Sunday, 29 November 2026, BroadwayWorld reported. By then the two-hander will have played 21 previews and 428 regular performances.

Previews began on 1 November 2025, and the show opened officially on 20 November 2025. Sam Tutty and Christiani Pitts have starred as Dougal and Robin throughout the Broadway run. The Longacre is at 220 West 48th Street.

The producers announced the closing in a statement. "Bringing this show to Broadway was a leap of faith, and audiences met us with open arms," they said. They added: "We cannot wait to tour this spectacular production across the country next year on its first national tour."

Box office behind the decision

In the most recent week reported, attendance was 70 percent of capacity at the 1,091-seat Longacre, with a gross of $519,236, Deadline reported. The show's attendance was typically on the lower end of the Broadway grosses roster, the report said. The Hollywood Reporter said grosses had been around or under $500,000 and that attendance had trended down over the last several months.

Deadline reported that the musical had favorable reviews and solid word of mouth but did not become a major hit at the box office.

Eight Tony nominations, no trophies

The musical received eight nominations at the 2026 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and acting nods for Tutty and Pitts. It did not win any trophies at the 7 June ceremony, Playbill reported.

It won three 2026 Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards: Tutty for Favorite Funny Performance, Tutty and Pitts for Favorite Onstage Pair, and "New York" for Favorite Original Song, Broadway News reported.

From the Kiln to the Longacre

Jim Barne and Kit Buchan wrote the book, music and lyrics. Tim Jackson directed and choreographed. The musical opened at the Kiln Theatre in London in November 2023, then transferred to the Criterion Theatre in the West End from 4 April to 31 August 2024, BroadwayWorld reported.

The musical follows Dougal, an optimistic Brit, and Robin, the bride's guarded sister, as they cross New York to collect a wedding cake. Its North American premiere ran at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from 20 May to 13 July 2025. An earlier version, titled The Season, was produced by Royal & Derngate Northampton and New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich.

National tour planned for fall 2027

The producers have said the first national tour will launch in Providence, Rhode Island, in fall 2027. The tour was previously announced. Casting, dates and additional cities have not been announced.
