Art Basel Miami Beach adds a $4,500 two-day Premium Discovery pass for 2026

Art Basel Miami Beach will offer a two-day Premium Discovery pass for $4,500 and a one-day version for $3,600. The pass includes early entry on all three public days, concierge service, access to the collectors' lounge, invitations to selected VIP events, a guided tour by fair director Bridget Finn and an exclusive Art Basel gift, Artforum reported. It does not admit holders to the first preview day on 2 December. It covers only the three-hour vernissage on 3 December, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cheaper tiers are the Premium Connection pass at $2,600 and the Premium pass at $1,250. A standard single-day ticket costs $92.

The fair opens to the public on 4 December and runs through 6 December at the Miami Beach Convention Center. It will show 272 exhibitors from more than 40 countries and territories, down from 285 last year, Art Basel said. The fair will use about 12 percent less floor space, and the main Galleries sector will have roughly 10 percent fewer exhibitors. Art Basel said the reduction was "more about refinement than contraction."

New layout and first-time galleries

Organisers have reorganised the hall around four hospitality plazas instead of five. ArteFuse reported that the change creates longer sightlines and spreads blue-chip galleries across the fair instead of clustering them in one section. Art Basel said the plan "opens sightlines and distributes blue-chip exhibitors throughout the show." More than 30 galleries are showing for the first time, most in the Nova, Positions and Survey sectors. Brazil is the third-largest national contingent, and the fair will include a strong presence from Los Angeles, Chicago and South Florida.

Zero 10, Art Basel's digital-art platform, returns with its largest presentation yet. Generation will bring together 19 projects involving Jon Rafman, Refik Anadol and Sarah Meyohas. The fair is also expanding its public programme, with two major projects presented free outside the Convention Center. The Turrell Art Foundation and Art Basel, with support from Pace Gallery, will present a new outdoor body of work by James Turrell. Public Art Fund will bring Between Tides, a series of artist-designed ping-pong tables, to Collins Park.

Rent cut kept the fair in Miami Beach

The 2026 edition follows a new five-year contract that keeps the fair in Miami Beach through 2031. Miami Beach commissioners voted 6-1 to approve it after an 18-month deadlock between the city and MCH Group, the Swiss owner of the Art Basel fairs. MCH had threatened to move the fair to Las Vegas. The contract reduces annual rent to $500,000 from nearly $1 million. It also includes emergency-services credits worth about $650,000 a year, a 30-day blackout period before the event and a veto over some activity in nearby public spaces, EDM Tunes reported.

Norman Braman, the Miami auto dealer credited with bringing the fair to the city, called the rent reduction "offensive." Noah Horowitz, Art Basel's chief executive, said MCH's recent profits followed years of "extraordinary losses in which MCH almost faced insolvency." MCH's most recent public financial statement reports profits of nearly $22 million for the first six months of 2026. The New York Times, as cited by Artforum, reported that the fair and its events draw about 80,000 attendees and bring $60 million into the city each year.

What happens next

VIP previews run on 2 and 3 December, split into First Choice, Preview and Vernissage tiers by invitation. Public hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from 4 to 6 December. The fair anchors Miami Art Week, which runs from 30 November to 6 December and includes more than twenty fairs such as Untitled Art, NADA Miami and Design Miami/.

Naomi Feldman covers culture, food, fashion and design, lifestyle and history for FLASH24, working from primary sources such as archive records, exhibition catalogues and first-person interviews rather than press releases. For food and design stories she checks prices, opening hours and production figures against at least two independent sources before filing. She spends much of her week talking to chefs, curators and designers, and marks the festival and fashion-week calendars months ahead to compare how the same event is covered elsewhere. Outside the desk she runs festival marathons and spends time in independent cinemas and film archives, which shapes how she reads cultural programming and restoration work. She does not publish a review without having seen the film, eaten the food or walked the space herself.
