Avaada lists 7.1 GW of TOPCon cell capacity as India's solar push moves upstream

The MNRE has recognised 7,117 MW of N-type TOPCon solar cell capacity from Avaada Electro at its Butibori plant in Maharashtra in the ALMM List-II's 13th revision dated 28 October 2026. Avaada announced the listing on 4 November.

Avaada lists 7.1 GW of TOPCon cell capacity as India's solar push moves upstream

Avaada puts 7.1 GW on the approved cell list

Avaada's G12 cells carry a manufacturer-declared maximum efficiency of 26.8%. They have a highest listed average of 25.89%. The G12 full-cell model has a declared maximum output of 11.81 watts per cell.

That gives developers more approved domestic cell capacity to source against. For competitors, it is nameplate scale declared before output is proven. Avaada says actual production and saleable output will depend on operating utilisation, manufacturing yields and product mix.

Listed capacity is not shipped capacity.

Why the cell stage matters

Module assembly was the easier entry point. Cells are where capital, process know-how and yields get harder. India's pipeline is now filling with them. Rayzon Solar is set to start production at its 5.1 GW TOPCon cell facility in December 2026. It expects initial deliveries in the first quarter of 2027. The Gujarat company has 11.3 GW of installed module capacity. It plans a 5.1 GW ingot casting and wafer slicing facility by 2028.

Waaree Energies is moving on the same axis. It plans to raise its India solar cell capacity from 5.4 GW to 15.4 GW in fiscal 2027. It also plans to commission a 10 GW ingot and wafer facility in fiscal 2028.

Both are announcements of capacity, not of output.

Policy gate and financing

Money is the other gate. Rayzon said it shifted from IPO proceeds to debt financing amid market volatility. Waaree said its US investments come amid changes in US trade policy. These include Section 232 measures that affect the economics of imported solar modules. Revenue from Waaree's US manufacturing operations rose to INR 13 billion ($146 million) in the second quarter of fiscal 2027. That was up from INR 7.32 billion a year earlier.

Engineering the factory, not just the line

Capacity numbers hide the integration work.

Zuvay Technologies combines wafer and cell-line configuration, automation, utilities, cleanroom, HVAC and gas abatement systems with GW-scale cell plant engineering. The company says clients running GW-scale projects want one engineering partner to own the interfaces rather than reconcile five vendors themselves.

Zuvay is also developing parametric tools. These derive a plant's utility loads from cell-line capacity and equipment class. It aims by 2030 to become the go-to engineering and equipment partner for India's GW-scale solar manufacturing. It is also building capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing.

What to watch

Rayzon's December 2026 production start will test whether new cell capacity reaches buyers on schedule. Its first-quarter 2027 deliveries will test the same.

Avaada has not said how much of its 7,117 MW listed capacity will be sold as cells.
