Cognizant closes Wizeline acquisition

Cognizant bought Wizeline from its previous investors, a group that included La Caisse. Chief executive Inés Casares is a Cognizant veteran. She held leadership positions at Cognizant, Cognizant Softvision and Globant, and was Wizeline's chief service officer.

Wizeline was founded in 2013. It works as a nearshore transformation engineering partner for enterprises in media and entertainment, financial services, and healthcare and life sciences.

What Wizeline brings

Wizeline's company profile reports about 2,000 employees and more than 100 clients. It reports a presence in 11 countries. Its location directory lists nine: Canada, the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Spain, Romania and Vietnam.

Media is a concentrated part of the business. Wizeline says four of the top six U.S. media conglomerates use its services.

Its media work links monetization tools with content operations. Subscriber and cross-channel analytics, ad tech and personalization sit alongside asset management, workflow automation, metadata generation, rights and distribution, streaming delivery and subscription management.

Its agentic AI accelerators coordinate multimodal search across asset libraries, archives and metadata taxonomies. Others turn a master asset into platform-specific content, or automate ingestion, tagging, transcription, captioning and rights distribution. The accelerators cover distinct stages of media work: finding material, adapting it for channels, preparing it for distribution. Cognizant says the purchase is part of building full-stack AI solutions. Those solutions are meant to connect AI spending with enterprise value.

The segment it lands in

According to its earnings call, second-quarter revenue grew 4.1% year over year in constant currency to $5.5 billion. The company counted seven large deals with total contract value above $100 million each. Full-year guidance calls for 4-5.5% constant-currency revenue growth.

Cognizant's third-quarter Form 10-Q says the Communications, Media and Technology segment, CMT, generated $939 million of revenue in the quarter ended 30 September 2026. That was up 10.5% year over year. Segment operating profit rose to $132 million from $112 million.

Cognizant's filing says technology clients, mostly in North America, drove that growth. The segment's largest customer led the way. Communications and media clients were weak across geographies.

Recently completed acquisitions supplied roughly 875 basis points of CMT's year-over-year third-quarter revenue growth. They supplied 210 basis points of company-wide growth. That leaves roughly 175 basis points of the 10.5% increase for everything else. Wizeline therefore adds media expertise to a segment whose recent growth came from a different customer group.

The cost question

Payments for business combinations, net of cash acquired, totaled $1.313 billion in the first nine months. Cognizant bought 3Cloud on 1 January 2026 for $728 million including contingent consideration. It bought Astreya on 22 June 2026 for $670 million including contingent consideration. Those amounts describe earlier transactions and give no measure of Wizeline's cost.

Cognizant said recently completed acquisitions diluted operating margins, even as Project Leap savings and favorable currency moves helped. Acquisition-related intangible amortization pushed depreciation and amortization expense up 10.4% to $149 million in the third quarter. Within CMT, better profitability at several large customers helped the segment margin. Acquisition dilution partly offset that help.

Wizeline closed after the quarter ended. So none of that acquisition contribution can be assigned to it. Cognizant defines recently completed acquisitions as deals closed in the 12 months before the reporting period began.

The announcement gives no Wizeline revenue and no expected earnings contribution. Cognizant has not disclosed how the deal will affect acquisition-driven growth, amortization or margins.
