Infleqtion reports 30 entangled logical qubits on 80 physical qubits

Infleqtion said on 24 September it entangled 30 logical qubits on its Sqale computer using 80 physical qubits, a company-reported milestone toward its 100-logical-qubit target for 2028.

The 24 September announcement

Infleqtion said the result makes it the first neutral-atom quantum computing company to reach 30 logical qubits on a commercial system. A signal about 1,000 times stronger than the underlying noise confirmed the entanglement. The experiment ran about 1,000 physical operations, which Infleqtion calls 1 KiloQuOp. An AI-assisted search using GPT 5.6 Sol found a new logical operation that halves the physical gates needed for a key step.

"Getting 30 logical qubits to work together is hard, and our team has done it," CEO Matt Kinsella said. "Co-design between our hardware and software enabled this demonstration with just 80 physical qubits. We're moving quickly toward our target of 100 logical qubits in 2028, and we're already developing applications with customers."

Eighty physical qubits for 30 logical qubits works out at about 2.7 physical qubits per logical qubit. In a 16 March 2026 announcement, Infleqtion said a 100-physical-qubit Sqale system had achieved operational status at the UK National Quantum Computing Centre in December 2025. That release said encoding one reliable logical qubit generally takes anywhere from 10 to more than 1,000 physical qubits. That ratio is below the general range cited in the March release. The 24 September release did not report an error rate or coherence time for the 30-qubit state, and it did not describe the 30 logical qubits as fault-tolerant.

Why the ratio is low

Physical qubits decay quickly under environmental noise. Logical qubits group several physical qubits behind software protocols that hold a calculation steady. Infleqtion said entangling those logical qubits across a coherent circuit is the harder step. In an interview with Moor Insights & Strategy, CTO Pranav Gokhale said the low ratio was made possible by Infleqtion's neutral-atom modality and its native all-to-all connectivity. He said superconducting qubits are limited to nearest-neighbor connections, so communicating across a chip requires long sequences of swaps that add overhead. He also said the system flags the exact location of a lost atom rather than searching for it.

Infleqtion reports a two-qubit gate fidelity of 99.73%, a figure it says reduces the physical-to-logical qubit overhead required for fault-tolerant computing.

Customers and the roadmap

Infleqtion says three customers already run logical qubit circuits on Sqale. One is the Wellcome Leap Quantum for Bio program, where the company demonstrated a quantum neural network approach at 12 logical qubits, with training on GPUs and inference on the quantum processing unit.

Thirty logical qubits was already a public target. In its Q2 2026 results on 12 August, Infleqtion said it was on track to reach 30 logical qubits in 2026 and had defined logical qubit circuits for customer workloads in finance, energy and precision medicine.

Infleqtion is under contract to deploy a neutral-atom quantum computer at the Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park in 2027, on a new architecture it says can scale through modular upgrades to more than 50 logical qubits. It is aiming for 100 logical qubits in 2028 and 1,000 by 2030.
