FIM Cisl forecasts Stellantis Italy output at about 450,000 vehicles

FIM Cisl forecast on Oct. 6 that Stellantis would build about 450,000 vehicles in Italy in 2026, roughly 10% below the union's prior expectation and below the union's 500,000 target.

FIM Cisl forecasts Stellantis Italy output at about 450,000 vehicles

The forecast was published in FIM Cisl's quarterly report on Stellantis's Italian output. A Stellantis spokesperson would not discuss the union's figures and estimates.

A rebound from a low base

Stellantis assembled 340,745 vehicles in Italy in the first nine months of 2026, up 28% from a year earlier, FIM Cisl said. The gain came from the Jeep Compass, the hybrid Fiat 500 and the Fiat Panda. Passenger-car output rose nearly 37% to 206,945 units.

The forecast would still be above the just under 380,000 vehicles Stellantis built in Italy in all of 2025, including 213,706 passenger cars, the lowest since 1954, according to the union. It includes more than 250,000 passenger cars and would reverse a two-year decline in Italian output.

Mirafiori and the Fiat 500

FIM Cisl expects about 60,000 hybrid Fiat 500s this year, against Stellantis's initial target of 100,000. Repeated stoppages caused by engine-component shortages and weaker-than-expected demand weighed on output, the union said. Plants in Italy and France have seen short-lived pauses tied to tight supplies of parts, including batteries, and weaker appetite for vehicles like the hybrid 500, Uliano said.

Uliano pressed for more product in Turin, saying: “We need a second model for Mirafiori” beyond the electric and hybrid Fiat 500. “There's an improvement in production volumes compared to last year, but last year was terrible. This isn't enough,” he said.

Cassino output falls

Nine-month output at Cassino fell 37%, while every other Stellantis plant in Italy increased, according to FIM Cisl. The plant built 19,539 vehicles in 2025 against nominal capacity of 285,000 a year, according to Fiom-Cgil data cited by heise online. It was closed from Oct. 6 to Oct. 9.

“The situation in Cassino is no longer sustainable,” Uliano said. The plant runs “only five or six days a month.”

What Stellantis says

CEO Antonio Filosa has pledged to keep all Stellantis factories open in Italy and France. He wants to fill underused sites with work for Chinese partners, pitching deals with Zhejiang Leapmotor and Dongfeng. FIM Cisl said it would back agreements that bring production back to Cassino, provided Stellantis keeps control and safeguards local jobs and suppliers.

Uliano set a condition on such deals. “We don't want our factories to become screwdriver plants that only assemble kits produced in China,” he said.

FIM Cisl expects more new models to enter production before the end of 2026, which it says will support output.
