IFL signs Zee and DD Sports to show every 2026-27 match free on TV and YouTube
The Indian Football League's 2026-27 season, which began on 30 October, puts every match live on DD Sports and free on Zee's Unite8 Sports YouTube channel, as it targets more than last season's 17.56 million TV viewers.

The Indian Football League has signed Zee Entertainment Enterprises and DD Sports as broadcast and streaming partners for its 2026-27 season. DD Sports, the Doordarshan channel, will telecast every match live, and selected fixtures will also be telecast on Zee's Unite8 Sports. All matches stream on Zee5, on Prasar Bharati's WAVES platform and free on the Unite8 Sports YouTube channel.
The season
The IFL is the second tier of the Indian football pyramid, below the Indian Super League. The 2026-27 season has 11 clubs. Each plays 20 league matches in a full home-and-away round robin. The season runs from 30 October to 20 March 2027. The opener was Real Kashmir FC against debutants Nagaland United SC at the TRC Stadium in Srinagar. Kick-off was at 6:30 PM IST. Nagaland United and Samaleswari Sporting Club are the new entrants. The league says they broaden its geographical spread. It is a return to a full home-and-away season after a shorter inaugural campaign.
Why free-to-air is the point
Pay-TV and subscription streaming remain beyond many Indian households, Inside World Football noted on 4 November, so free-to-air DD Sports and a free YouTube feed give the IFL reach a paid product could not. Its report added that both the IFL and the rival Indian Super League lean heavily on free digital access to reach fans. The ISL relaunched this autumn under its own club-led model, and Revsportz reported that its clubs have prioritised YouTube for digital streaming, which would put the ISL on the platform for the first time.
For Zee, the league adds domestic club football to a portfolio already built on FIFA and Serie A rights, and gives its new Unite8 Sports network a shop window. Neither Zee nor the IFL has said what the rights are worth.
The audience number the league is chasing
The IFL reported a television audience of 17.56 million last season. Wider distribution aims to beat that figure.
Larsing LD Sawyan is managing director of Shillong Lajong FC. He went further, saying the inaugural IFL drew 1.6 times the viewership of the ISL. That is a club official's claim, not a league-published figure. The ISL number behind it has not been disclosed. Nildeep Mondal, the IFL's chief executive, framed the deal more broadly. He said every match on multiple platforms makes the league more accessible across regions and demographics. Bavesh Janavlekar, chief business officer of Zee Sports Network, called it a long-term commitment.
Why Zee wanted domestic football
Zee holds Indian broadcast and streaming rights to 39 FIFA events from 2026 to 2034, including the 2026 and 2030 World Cups and the 2027 Women's World Cup. Its five-year deal for Serie A, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana covers India plus six neighbouring markets and began on 22 August with the 2026-27 season. Zee also holds Bundesliga rights and has said 15% of Zee5's football subscription revenues will go to grassroots initiatives. Unite8 Sports launched four channels across more than 500 cable and distribution platforms, and the IFL joins a domestic portfolio that also includes the Super League Kerala.
Zee is entering a market where the incumbent has taken heavy losses. Indian Television reported that JioStar, the Reliance-Disney joint venture, more than doubled its provisions for expected losses on onerous sports contracts in 2024-25, to ₹25,760 crore from ₹12,319 crore a year earlier, after a ban on real-money gaming advertising opened an estimated $840 million annual advertising gap.
What happens next
The competitive question is the ISL. Revsportz reported that Zee was nearing a deal for the ISL's linear television rights. Inside World Football reported on 4 November that Sony had returned as the ISL's broadcaster. The two reports point in different directions, and Zee has not said publicly whether it will end up carrying both leagues.
The IFL season runs to 20 March 2027. By then the audience for this free-to-air bet will be known. Zee will also know whether its domestic football rights sit alongside an ISL contract or against one.
