NXP issues third 2026 price notice to distributors

NXP issues third 2026 price notice to distributors

NXP Semiconductors has sent letters to distributors outlining plans to adjust prices on some distribution and direct-supply product lines, effective 1 January 2027, BigGo Finance reported. The notice is NXP's third price-adjustment notice of 2026, after earlier rounds in March and May.

Both earlier rounds cited inflationary cost pressure from raw materials, energy, labor, logistics and supplier inputs, according to the report. NXP is a top global player in automotive chips and is focused on software-defined vehicle products, with core offerings including S32 series automotive processors, the S32N5 central computing platform chip, in-vehicle networking and communications chips, and radar chips. The successive price increases mean cost pressure is being passed down the supply chain, the report said.

Why the notice matters

China Passenger Car Association data show that in the first three quarters, the Chinese auto industry posted revenue of 8.04 trillion yuan, up 2.6% year on year, while operating costs rose 3.8% to 7.16 trillion yuan. Cumulative profit fell 23% to 267.5 billion yuan, or about $40.2 billion, cutting the cumulative sales profit margin to 3.3% and extending a multiyear decline.

September was worse. Revenue came to 1.04 trillion yuan, up 0.6% year on year, on output of 3.06 million vehicles, while operating costs rose 2.5%. Monthly profit fell 68% to 14.2 billion yuan, or about $2.1 billion, and the sales profit margin dropped to 1.4%, the lowest monthly level in nearly four years. That works out to about 4,640 yuan of profit per vehicle built. The September margin was less than half the 3.3% cumulative margin for the first nine months.

Memory is a sharp input cost. UBS estimates that memory chip price increases alone could add several thousand yuan to tens of thousands of yuan to the per-vehicle cost of high-end intelligent driving models, according to BigGo Finance.

Automakers flag chip costs

Stellantis chief executive Antonio Filosa said on Stellantis's earnings call that higher memory and raw material prices "will be an industry-wide phenomenon to work with", NPR reported on 29 October. General Motors chief financial officer Paul Jacobson said on GM's earnings call that if prices stay at this level, "it makes that more challenging heading into next year". GM forecast that materials including computer chips and diesel would cost it as much as $2 billion this year, NPR reported.
