Salesforce adds Cresta at a reported $2.7B as AI service vendors consolidate

Salesforce agreed to buy Cresta Intelligence, a maker of AI customer service software, in a late Monday announcement on 2 November. It disclosed no terms; The Information put the price at $2.7 billion.

For buyers, the effect is a thinner field of independent vendors. Salesforce is assembling three AI service assets in one year, and the largest, Braze at $5.66 billion, has not closed.

Salesforce adds Cresta to a year of buying

Cresta's platform answers customer inquiries with AI. The deal is Salesforce's second multibillion-dollar customer service acquisition this year, after an agreement to buy Fin, formerly Intercom, for $3.6 billion.

Cresta chief executive Ping Wu framed it as scale. "By uniting our platform with Salesforce, we will realize our full vision at scale," he said.

The workforce side of the same bet

NICE is cutting about 500 jobs, or 5 per cent of its 10,000-strong workforce, HRKatha reported. The company is trying to sell its financial-crime and compliance unit Actimize while spending on AI, including a German AI-agent startup bought for $1 billion. It expects annual revenue above $3 billion for the first time.

NICE also has a distribution push. It said it would work with Ciklum to move large EMEA clients from pilots into production deployments.

Returns are uneven, and customers notice

The spread is wide. An EY India report published on 3 November split organisations into Achievers at 23 per cent, Challengers at 33 per cent and Aspirants at 44 per cent. It drew on more than 100 survey responses and executive interviews. Achievers reported 25 to 50 per cent or higher improvements across service metrics, with more than 50 per cent on at least three or four core measures.

The gap shows up in deployment. 91 per cent of Achievers run scaled voice AI, while over 80 per cent of Challengers and Aspirants still rely on human agents or menu-driven IVRs.

Customers are not neutral. A SurveyMonkey report cited by CMSWire found 79 per cent of US consumers strongly prefer a human agent. And 81 per cent think AI is used mainly to save money. A Kinsta survey put the preference for humans at 93.4 per cent.

What happens next

Two dates matter. Salesforce expects to close both the Braze and Cresta deals in its 2028 fiscal year, which starts next February. NICE reports third-quarter 2026 results on 4 November. Investors will watch for early Ciklum deal flow and AI attach rates on CXone.
